The Craig T Brown Experience – Wed 10/16 (more than a DJ Set!)

That’s right, it might not be pretty….but DJ Tinman is shaking off the rust and getting pulled out of retirement. Though trainwrecks aplenty are promised, you are guaranteed 3 hours of the widest and deepest collection of wax heard all year.

Also, if you haven’t been to the MKT BAR yet….well, that’s a treat in itself. FANTASTIC food and a chill atmosphere is gonna make this a lot of fun.

And it wouldn’t be Craig, without throwing some curveballs along the way….special guests and Baby Blue suits are NOT out of the question — soooo, “SEXUAL CHOCOLATE!!!” — Be there 😉

The Mighty Ryeders Ride High

The Mighty Ryeders – Help Us Spread The Message

“Even if its jazz or the quiet storm, I hook a beat up convert it in a hip-hop form”

Erik B. & Rakim
“I Ain’t No Joke”
Paid In Full

Everyone loves a good sample in a hip hop song. Whether it’s A Tribe Called Quest sampling “Walk on the Wild Side” by Lou Reed for the Tribe classic “Can I Kick It?” or Bestie Boys lifting the opening bass line from Jimmy Smith’s “Root Down”, sampling and hip hop have gone hand in hand since day one.

After the release of 3 Feet High & Rising in 1989, De La Soul were setting a new standard in hip hop with their Native Tongues counterparts A Tribe Called Quest & Jungle Brothers. Their sophomore release, 1991’s De La Soul Is Dead, saw the group staying true to their creative and sample heavy sound. One such sample was “Evil Vibrations” by a little known 70’s funk octet called the Mighty Ryeders. Used for the lead off single “A Roller Skating Jam Named Saturdays”, this track has a slinky rolling baseline that blends perfectly with Q-Tip’s mellow flow and drums that punctuate the perfect cadence of Posdnuos & Trugoy impeccable rhymes.

Now available via Luv N’ Haight Records, Mighty Ryeders only proper LP is a must have for funk & hip hop aficionados alike. Check out both tracks after the jump.
